How I Cleared My Chronic Eczema Naturally
Without suppression or steroids
If you are the kind of person who already eats well, lives consciously, and does “all the right things” for your health, yet still deals with a persistent, chronic, and seemingly mysterious issue, you are not alone.
I have always been a health-conscious, nature-connected mom of my two kids, and I have been on my own personal healing journey for nearly 14 years. I prioritize organic and locally sourced food whenever possible, and live in a home designed with natural, non-toxic materials. For years, I have relied on herbal and homeopathic remedies for my family and myself, always seeking natural solutions first. Despite this, I was dealing with painful, itchy eczema that was stubborn and persistent.
I knew intuitively that my eczema was an expression of an inner imbalance; it was not simply a “skin problem”. When I consumed certain foods, or had a poor night of sleep, my eczema would flare. I did not personally consider using topical steroids, even when the symptoms felt unbearable, because I felt they only offered a band-aid solution. Furthermore, I had heard about the serious side effects that come from topical steroid withdrawal, and I was not interested in creating a cascade of additional challenges.
I knew the skincare products I was making would help to support and nourish my skin, but they were not going to solve the underlying problem. In fact, at certain points, I could not apply anything on my skin except for castor oil, because it was so sensitive.
I was familiar with elimination diets, but restriction felt like a stressful and surface-driven approach. It felt like there had to be something more; something that I was missing. Then I discovered circadian and quantum biology, and everything began to shift. I started aligning my body with natural light cycles. Each morning, I made sure the first light to touch my eyes was the sunrise. At night, I dimmed the indoor lights, used circadian friendly lighting, and allowed my body to produce melatonin naturally. As my sleep deepened, it felt like my body was able to repair for the first time in years. My energy stabilized, my nervous system regulated, and my skin began to heal.
During one of the worst outbreaks I have ever experienced, my eczema was visible on my face, neck, ears, hands, and between my fingers. I felt frustrated and exhausted. I was selling my skincare products at a local market one winter morning, as I observed people around me enjoying life and eating all the foods I had been avoiding. I was hungry, cranky and itchy. And then, I had a small “F it” moment. There were vendors all around me, selling amazing local goods. So I walked over to local vendor who was selling butter, and bought a big tub of raw A2 Jersey butter, drove home, and prepared a big, nourishing meal of all the foods I had been craving. I decided to fully embrace what real nourishment felt like to me, and the circadian practices I had been learning. I focused on eating enough food, sleeping deeply, getting sunrise light first thing in the morning, and reducing artificial light at night.
Within just a few days, my eczema improved dramatically. Over the following weeks and months, I deepened my circadian wellness practices. I prioritized sunlight on my belly when it was warm enough (see note below for more details) and focused more on infrared light during colder periods through saunas, candlelight, firelight, and movement. I spent time barefoot on the earth to ground myself and soothe my nervous system, and I also incorporated homeopathy and flower essences to support deeper emotional patterns. Eventually my eczema fully cleared, and I am so grateful to say that I no longer deal with this painful, itchy condition.
What I realized through this experience is that true healing comes from returning to the essentials: light, nourishment, rest, grounding, and aligning with natural rhythms. Today, I help others reconnect to these rhythms, restore vitality, and remember the deep intelligence that lives within their body: the same intelligence that guided me back to health.
Note regarding food and elimination diets: we are all on our own unique path when it comes to food and nutrition. From my experience, elimination diets and removing foods temporarily can be very beneficial, in certain circumstances. The point of this post is simply to encourage you to listen to what nourishment means for your body, so that you can do what feels right for you. Working with a wellness coach who listens to you and honors your inner wisdom can be a key part of that healing path.
Note regarding sunlight exposure: Everyone has their own unique relationship with sunlight and how much they can handle at any one time. Studies have shown sunlight on the belly to be supportive of gut health, microbiome diversity, and mitochondrial repair.
